Israel started giving booster shot on 30 July for people 60 and older. On 16 August, the third dose of the vaccine were offered to people as young as age 50. As one of the world's highest levels of vaccination of Covid-19, with 78% of those 12 and older fully vaccinated, the country is also logging one of the world's highest infection rates. More than half are in vaccinated people.

"There are so many breakthrough infections that they dominate and most of the hospitalized patients are actually vaccinated," says Uri Shalit, a bioinformatician at the Israel Institute of Technology (Technion).
