ArriveCAN App: Data harvesting – Would Bill C-27 work for or against Canadians?

"Trudeau's administration is alright with stealing data from its citizen through an app [ArriveCan] but is scared of having theirs stolen by another app [TikTok]."

"The Liberal government introduced a privacy bill called Bill C 27, projecting that it would help protect user data and make privacy stronger. But the government didn't prioritize the bill; hence, it only reached its second reading in nearly nine months. When the House of Commons resumes on Monday, the Liberal party is expected to move forward with the bill which updates Canada's privacy laws.

"This is coming amidst worries about TikTok's data collection activities in Canada. So, in other words, if there weren't the issue of the data collection by the Chinese company, the Liberal party would have maintained its lackadaisical approach to bill C 27. But then, it's not like they care about what happens to Canadians' data and who gets them.

"I mean, the past cases of this Liberal government storing citizens' data without any authorization go to show that the Trudeau administration does not care or even believe in privacy laws. You can also say that the federal government is doing this to make up for its past faults and scandals in data collection. But Canadians are not stupid and won't fall for such cheap political stunts."
