"This is an alarming Trend. Some Western countries have already legislation in place, or they are implementing such, that allows them to stop Dissidents from leaving the country by revoking or not renewing their passports."

"Now we have known that such measures existed and exist where certain countries don’t allow their citizens to leave the country. This was a common theme in the former East Germany or German Democratic Republic, which was aligned to the former Soviet Union where they build a wall around the country to stop people from fleeing to Western Germany. So if you wanted to leave the country then you had to go through all kinds of screenings and hurdles and most people never got a passport. Only if you were strongly aligned to the political party in power, or in other words, you were a good citizen, then you got one."

"In China I believe there are also restrictions for citizens where the social credit system has already been rolled out where a low score doesn’t allow them to use public transportation and to book flights. I would imagine that for identified dissidents there would be also restrictions regarding their travel ability. There are also news about this, where passports are just invalidated by the border police of China without much reasoning behind it which I personally find very terrifying."
