The stated aims is to reduce fraud, fake directorships and shell company abuse. But in reality, it is another example of policy inversion: the same institutions claimed to fight fraud are actually those enabling it. Two dates to note here: Company directors in UK are forced to enrol by November 18, 2025 and everyone else needs to have a digital ID by the end of 2027 as it is the only way to access all central government services.
