Food For Thought: 'The courts can't touch this one' – Premier Danielle Smith boxed in on Alberta leaving Canada referendum.

"When I first heard the question Premier Danielle Smith plans to put on the ballot this October, I’ll be honest — I was disappointed. Like many of you, I wanted a clear up‑or‑down vote on independence. Instead, we’re being asked to vote… on whether we might get a chance to vote later."

"Should Alberta remain a province of Canada or should the Government of Alberta commence the legal process required under the Canadian Constitution to hold a binding provincial referendum on whether or not Alberta should separate from Canada?"

"The way she did it, and I listened carefully to her words. She's right. The courts can't touch this one. And it keeps the power with the people in the meantime and allows the rest of us to get our act together."

"Did Danielle Smith save the independence movement last night?"
