The Great Narrative: Ghost jobs – The tale of two US employment numbers and the case of millions of fake job postings.
"Are job openings real or fake? While official numbers and mainstream media portray a strong job market, a closer look reveals a different story. Many job openings online are fake, with 68% of job postings active for over a month, and 1 in 10 job postings over six months old. 20% of managers don't plan to fill the job, using it as a motivation tool or to give the impression of company growth. Replacement job openings are also common, with employers posting them to replace current workers.
"The unemployment rate is low, but layoffs are rising, with tech companies leading the charge. However, the low-skill and lower-income job market still sees a massive demand spike. Initial payroll numbers may show robust job growth, but later revisions often reveal significant downward adjustments.
"In conclusion, sticking with your job is probably a good idea as layoffs are likely coming. It's better to earn money on the side than to jump ship and become the new person on board, who could be the first to be let go."
