@Anna-Lianhua: "I lived in China from 2013 till 2022, I remember somewhere around 2016 everyone switched to use WeChat pay and Alipay to pay bills and do shopping or even pay for small factory order. In 2014 I lived in Guangzhou and used to send my monthly rent via bank transfer and I used cash when buying vegetables or fruits in a nearby market. Last 4 years I lived in Shenzhen and noticed we don't use cash anymore, its even difficult to use cash, as every taxi driver is using WeChat or Alipay, and even grandma selling bananas at the corner will use e-wallets.

"In 2022 I noticed e-cny signs at the shops, so it will take next few years before they start use it massively. In May 2023 in some provinces they started paying salaries to civil servants using e-cny. From 2019 and on they had different pilots across the country, like distributing red envelopes in a form of hongbao to citizens so they can spend at the shopping malls or even pay for electricity or bus transportation."
